- What is karat?
-
Karat is the unit of measuring the purity of gold.
- What are alloys?
-
Alloys are a composite of metals, including copper and silver, which are added to 24 karat gold during the jewelry manufacturing process.
- Why are alloys added to 24 karat gold?
-
Gold is an extremely soft metal and therefore combined with alloys in order to make it more durable.
- Is the marked karat on my gold jewelry accurate?
-
As the stamped karat value of jewelry is neither regulated nor monitored, it is possible that the actual gold karat of the jewelry may be less than that which is specified.
- What is the difference between melt value, metal value, and market value?
-
Melt value is the value of the metal once the jewelry is melted. Metal value is the value of the metal according to its market price. Market value is the value of the metal per ounce as determined by the futures or spot market.
- If I paid $x for my jewelry, will I receive $x from Jewelry Liquidation?
-
The price you paid for your jewelry, similarly the price it may be valued at by an appraiser, reflects the retail value of the jewelry as marked up by the retailer. Jewelry Liquidation pays you the melt value of the jewelry.
- How is the melt value of my gold jewelry determined?
-
In order to determine the melt value of your gold jewelry, first the karat value is determined to know how much pure gold is in the jewelry.
Once the amount of pure gold is determined, it is multiplied by the market value of gold.
